My favourite type of cross stitch patterns are antique and folk art samplers. It is for me never boring to look at a sampler with all the little different motifs.
For those among us that find it interesting too, here are some facts about samplers and symbolism.

Period drama’s … I just can’t get enough of them. I love the simplicity of life portrayed in bygone era’s and off course the beautiful handmade dresses. Many samplers where stitched during that time by schoolgirls or by ‘lady’s of the Manor’ …. all a feast for the eye.
The BBC is currently running a second season of ‘Larkrise to Candleford’ and it has become my altime favourite. The website contains the history of Larkrise, Flora Thompson – writer of Larkrise to Candleford – and the latest episode if you missed it (note: the iplayer is unfortunately not available for those outside the UK ). Don’t forget to have a peek into Dorcas’ kitchen with some wonderful recepies from the Victorian era… yummy!
More information about Flora Thompson can be found at the Old Gaol Museum of Buckinham.
